Vogue: Billie Eilish Recycled Her Wardrobe For the Environmental Media Association Awards
Last night’s Environmental Media Association Awards (EMAs) in Los Angeles, celebrated those who have made an impact in combatting climate change and taken positive steps towards sustaining our planet. One such honoree was Billie Eilish and her mother, Maggie Baird: During the singer’s Happier Than Ever tour, they launched “Overheated,” a climate-focused conference that featured keynote speakers, documentary screenings, and even clothing swaps. The pair were honored for this initiative, and Eilish’s look for the red carpet event kept in line with the night’s themes of sustainability.
Fans of Eilish know that she’s been almost exclusively wearing Gucci on the red carpet for the past few years (she serves as a muse to Alessandro Michele), and the star rewore a custom Gucci look that she previously wore back in 2020. The green, silky brocade trousers and top—with a necktie detail—was originally worn to the Billboard Awards that year. It felt just as fresh in 2022—this time worn without the matching bucket hat, and with piles of gold necklaces instead.
While it’s an easy styling move to re-wear what you already own, it was clearly an intentional choice. Stars have every designer label at their finger tips—not to mention the pressure to constantly deliver new, exciting looks on the carpet—so it was refreshing (and thematic) for Eilish to recycle her threads. It also proved that a sleek, well-cut design will never go out of style.
